2019-03-30: That feeling when your vendor sends a beta and you can finally play with the new feature you’ve been waiting for for a year.
2019-03-28: This: “Our DAM systems sit at the edge of the wheel, while our Scripps Asset Registry sits in the middle and manages the relationships between these systems. […] Our assets are related to one another in a graph, and it was far too complicated to try to model this relationally.” https://neo4j.com/blog/master-data-management/applying-graphs-enterprise-media-asset-management/
2019-03-26: Wow. I intended to experiment with @awscloud DocumentDB by using it for a small personal project – but the minimum cost is 240$/month (Frankfurt region): https://aws.amazon.com/de/documentdb/pricing/ Definitely not for me.
2019-03-21: Looks like we’ll be in Amsterdam for the @woodwingsoft Xperience 2019 conference: https://www.woodwing.com/en/events/xperience-2019-home I’m looking forward to talking to Elvis DAM users. Are you going, too?
2019-03-19: „When it comes to your problem, every vendor is going to claim their system already solves it as a pattern (#1) or can solve it with some small and routine tweaks (#2), or that your problem can be solved some other way (#3) or that it’s just not a big problem to start with (#4).“ https://twitter.com/gadgetopia/status/1108000731045466112
2019-03-18: „Hire smart people and get out of their way“ is easy compared to what you need to do most of the time – hire for potential, and provide both autonomy and leadership. Failure to recognize or foster potential is as damaging as a lack of direction and authority when things go wrong.
2019-03-17: „By no other virtue than costing more than everything else in a typical DAM initiative, the technology considerations get moved to the top of the agenda.“ https://digitalassetmanagementnews.org/opinion/crisis-what-dam-crisis/

2019-03-14: I’m a NodeJS newbie – which (free) process manager would you recommend to keep my applications running? See: https://mrvautin.com/running-nodejs-applications-in-production-forever-vs-supervisord-vs-pm2/
2019-03-08: „At Nuxeo, we believe ‚simplification‘ is just a euphemism for ‚adapting yourself to fit your DAM vendor’s software.‘ Legacy DAM software organizes your information a bit like a file cabinet or a library card catalog, forces you to make tough choices about how to file assets…“ https://www.nuxeo.com/blog/dam-konmari/
2019-03-07: Nice: Scripps Networks’ “asset registry” bridges multiple DAM systems and adds a knowledge graph, powered by @neo4j: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jlK88WXm8I
2019-03-07: Taking the time to share thoughts, knowledge, code and data on the public Web, for free, has been totally worth it for me: I met amazing people online and in real life who taught me, helped me out, cooperated with me, offered me a job… Thank you, internet.
2019-03-04: “Engineers need to be developers, operators, architects, testers and security experts. Amazon teaches developers these skills.” https://highscalability.com/how-is-software-developed-at-amazon/
2019-03-02: I spent the last few weeks writing down 90 pages of DAM use cases. Use case documentation is a great opportunity to meet the people using our software: I learned how it helps them getting their job done, where it could be of help w/ some tweaking, and where it gets in their way.
2019-03-01: Hierarchical navigation is good for certain manually curated structures (information architecture, taxonomy, nested collections). For everything else, learn the Google lesson: Let people search & filter a huge, flat dataset. Forget folders. Stop emulating decade-old filesystems.
