2019-12-03: Yes, that single toxic person is the reason I don’t want to work with your company anymore if I can – I definitely will not recommend you to others. (That’s why they call it “toxic”.)
2019-12-02: Real masters don‘t have to resort to arrogance or „we don’t do it like that / not best practice“ platitudes. They excel at explaining their decisions, with concrete examples which can be understood, and challenged, by the layman.
2019-11-30: „When senior level people are able to grow junior colleagues, they are able to take on new responsibilities, build new skills, find new challenges without leaving the organization and ultimately everyone is better off.“ https://bellmar.medium.com/heroes-and-juniors-increasing-engineering-team-velocity-97ce6a59103e
2019-11-24: „Newsroom planning is extremely complicated: it requires collaboration, transparency and a shared understanding of status.“ https://open.nytimes.com/its-all-part-of-the-plan-e165dba39842
2019-10-28: Dear Mordac, I might adhere to „the way we do things around here“ if you‘d take the time to document and explain your rules and conventions (maybe even help me implement them).
2019-10-12: Asynchronous conversations (Twitter, mail, chat) are full of pitfalls. One day I hope I’ll learn to attribute everything I don‘t understand, or don‘t agree with, to lack of context. And I‘ll learn to provide more context in my replies to minimize misunderstandings.
2019-10-12: „A knowledge base can either serve as or integrate with a digital asset management system.“ I want a knowledge base in our company, and #DAM metadata referencing it. 2019-10-10: „Buyers of enterprise DAM solutions are always—at least to some extent—buying products sight unseen. […] No matter how many demos or proofs of concept you may conduct, the day will come when you confront a use case that you and your vendor simply did not anticipate.“ https://digitalassetmanagementnews.org/features/confessions-of-a-dam-vendor/
2019-10-10: Just like living under censorship turns you into a self-censoring person, working against an unrealistic deadline at some point inevitably switches you into low-quality, tech debt-inducing mode. (Which can be okay if you take the time to clean things up later.) https://x.com/Nick_Craver/status/1180624053805240326
2019-10-08: If this project turns out to be successful, its “succeeded despite” list will be much longer than the “succeeded because” one.
2019-10-07: Slightly weird that the „Elvis DAM“ product name is being killed without introducing an alternative; the PR only says „WoodWing’s DAM solution“. Still looking for a new name, or is that the final one? https://www.woodwing.com/company/press-releases/gyldendal-books-woodwing-to-improve-print-and-digital-content-alignment
2019-10-03: For 16 years – since posting /tim/weblog/archives/2003/07/25/135/ – I‘ve been dreaming of owning a tablet computer. Now I finally got me an iPad Air 2019 with LTE, and it‘s an amazing device. I can do so much more on it than on that tiny smartphone screen.
