Here\u2019s the last month\u2019s Digital Asset Management articles which had a lasting impression on me \u2013 picked from the constant stream of blog posts you can see float by on Planet DAM<\/a>. My reading list arrives pretty late this month \u2013 the links below are all from September, and it\u2019s almost November already\u2026<\/p>\n

Two of my favorite articles deal with vendors \u201cpivoting\u201d<\/strong>: In Knowing when It\u2019s Time to Start Over<\/a>, David Diamond interviews Ramon Forster about the change of direction they\u2019re taking with the upcoming Picturepark Content Platform. And Max Dunn tells the story of how their \u201cSilicon Connector\u201d product name keeps redefining the product<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m still unsure how much of an impact blockchains<\/strong> will have on DAM, but I\u2019m happy I finally understand their potential thanks to Ralph Windsor\u2019s two-part series called Blockchains: Catalysts For Innovation In Content DAM<\/a> and his CMSWire article From Value Chains To Blockchains<\/a>. Ralph is not the only one looking at blockchains, see Alexandra Lilienthal\u2019s Will Blockchain Disrupt ECM or Is it Just a Lot of Hype?<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking of ECM<\/strong>, I think there\u2019s a lot to learn from DAM related disciplines \u2013 check out Jack Saville\u2019s definition of Enterprise Content Management<\/a> and Martin White\u2019s look at the next generation of Enterprise Search<\/a>. Miles Kehoe advises us to improve Enterprise Search by putting your metadata to work<\/a>. Which brings us to\u2026<\/p>\n

Metadata:<\/strong> Heather Hedden writes about the NISO Technical Report on vocabulary management issues<\/a>, David Diamond explains synonyms in practice<\/a>, and Emily Kolvitz knows how to create a taxonomy in 5 easy steps<\/a>. John Horodyski talks about the importance of metadata<\/a>.<\/p>\n

WoodWing publishes a webinar video: How Artificial Intelligence brings value to your existing archives using Elvis DAM<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t watched all of it yet, but Mark Davey\u2019s webinar The DAM Zeitgeist: Maturity Model Data Analysis 2017 (registration required)<\/a> seems to be an interesting look at DAM customers and vendors through the eyes of a DAM consultant. Tony Byrne\u2019s tip for vendor selection is to run competitive bake-offs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Martech Advisor features a nice overview article by Abhinandan Ghosh \u2013 (DAM)n, it Makes Life Easier!<\/a> MediaValet has 8 sports analogies to help you manage a DAM project<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Industry news:<\/strong> In September, Bynder\u2019s \u201cfreemium\u201d DAM product Orbit<\/a> becomes generally available. Spencer Harris reviews it on DAM News: Bynder\u2019s New Platform Hasn\u2019t Quite Made It Into \u2018Orbit\u2019<\/a>, with a \u201cforeword\u201d<\/a> by Ralph Windsor. Emily Kolvitz\u2019 is sure that free cloud-native tools are changing the industry<\/a>. Ralph Windsor announces the forthcoming 2018 DAM Vendor Pricing Survey<\/a>. G2 Crowd publishes its \u201cBest DAM Software\u201d fall 2017 rankings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Conference reporting:<\/strong> Max Dunn shares his takeaways from Print 17 and DAM Chicago<\/a>. Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Sanuy also reports from DAM Chicago 2017<\/a>, while Sofie Samrell summarizes QBank\u2019s DAM Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n
