For more curated DAM links, see the weekly <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagement.com\/blog\/tag\/links\/\">Digital Asset Management.com Links<\/a> and Tracy Wolfe\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/modlibrarian.wordpress.com\">10 things on the 10th<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(The list is a bit shorter this month because <a href=\"\/tim\/weblog\/archives\/2017\/07\/31\/1624\">my new job<\/a> keeps me busy.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorites<\/strong>: Every enterprise DAM customer and vendor should read Ralph Windsor\u2019s excellent piece on <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagementnews.org\/enterprise-discontent-with-current-dam-solutions-and-the-impending-future-of-digital-asset-management\/\">enterprise discontent with current DAM solutions<\/a>. A sample quote: <em>\u201cDAM users want to be able to drill down through the digital asset supply chain and gain greater control over their digital asset operations. [\u2026] The role of the software vendor as provider of a self-contained product which they exclusively control and make decisions about is likely to end.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Also highly recommended is Nora Gehin\u2019s article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.widen.com\/blog\/listening-and-message-repetition-are-key-to-user-adoption\">Listening and message repetition are key to user adoption<\/a> which contains tons of useful advice for DAM practitioners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Industry news<\/strong>: The big news this month is that Bynder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/holy-shit-were-launching-free-dam-tool-called-orbit-emily-kolvitz\">is launching a free DAM tool called Orbit<\/a> \u2013 Emily Kolvitz is happy that everyone can now \u201ctouch and understand\u201d DAM. CEO Chris Hall\u2019s take on this is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/dam-everyone-chris-hall\">DAM for everyone!<\/a> On DAM News, Ralph Windsor <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagementnews.org\/vendors\/are-bynder-orbiting-or-departing-from-planet-dam\/\">comments on the possible implications<\/a> for Bynder and the DAM market.<\/p>\n<p>Extensis <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.extensis.com\/portfolio\/vision-behind-portfolio-2017.php\">release Portfolio 2017<\/a>, and again, Ralph Windsor <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagementnews.org\/vendors\/extensis-update-portfolio-for-2017\/\">reviews the update in detail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Metadata<\/strong>: Heather Hedden first explains <a href=\"http:\/\/accidental-taxonomist.blogspot.de\/2017\/07\/metadata-and-taxonomies.html\">metadata, taxonomies and facets<\/a>, and then discusses whether to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/build-buy-contract-out-taxonomy-heather-hedden\">build, buy, or contract out a taxonomy<\/a>. Cathy McKnight says DAM metadata is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalclaritygroup.com\/dam-metadata-gets-you-every-time\/\">easier than you think<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Theodora Petkova introduces <a href=\"https:\/\/ontotext.com\/semantic-metadata\/\">semantic metadata<\/a> as the next step. Ian Truscott states that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.censhare.com\/en\/blog\/article\/tuesday-2-cents-semantic-database-why-marketers-should-care\">a semantic database<\/a> is the basis for artificial intelligence (<strong>AI<\/strong>). In a podcast, Henrik de Gyor and Emily Kolvitz <a href=\"https:\/\/tagging.tech\/2017\/07\/17\/emily-kolvitz\/\">talk about image recognition<\/a>.
