Here\u2019s the last month\u2019s Digital Asset Management articles which had a lasting impression on me \u2013 picked from the constant stream of blog posts you can see float by on Planet DAM<\/a>. (The list is a bit shorter this month because my new job<\/a> keeps me busy.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Favorites<\/strong>: Every enterprise DAM customer and vendor should read Ralph Windsor\u2019s excellent piece on enterprise discontent with current DAM solutions<\/a>. A sample quote: \u201cDAM users want to be able to drill down through the digital asset supply chain and gain greater control over their digital asset operations. [\u2026] The role of the software vendor as provider of a self-contained product which they exclusively control and make decisions about is likely to end.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Also highly recommended is Nora Gehin\u2019s article Listening and message repetition are key to user adoption<\/a> which contains tons of useful advice for DAM practitioners.<\/p>\n

Industry news<\/strong>: The big news this month is that Bynder is launching a free DAM tool called Orbit<\/a> \u2013 Emily Kolvitz is happy that everyone can now \u201ctouch and understand\u201d DAM. CEO Chris Hall\u2019s take on this is DAM for everyone!<\/a> On DAM News, Ralph Windsor comments on the possible implications<\/a> for Bynder and the DAM market.<\/p>\n

Extensis release Portfolio 2017<\/a>, and again, Ralph Windsor reviews the update in detail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Metadata<\/strong>: Heather Hedden first explains metadata, taxonomies and facets<\/a>, and then discusses whether to build, buy, or contract out a taxonomy<\/a>. Cathy McKnight says DAM metadata is easier than you think<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Theodora Petkova introduces semantic metadata<\/a> as the next step. Ian Truscott states that a semantic database<\/a> is the basis for artificial intelligence (AI<\/strong>). In a podcast, Henrik de Gyor and Emily Kolvitz talk about image recognition<\/a>.
