Here\u2019s the last month\u2019s Digital Asset Management articles which had a lasting impression on me \u2013 picked from the constant stream of blog posts you can see float by on Planet DAM<\/a>. Since I\u2019m on a DAM vendor team myself, Anna Cotton\u2019s article on the vendor\u2019s DAM product team<\/a> being the key to customer success resonated the most with me.<\/p>\n

Sadly, the DAM Foundation closed down<\/a> last month \u2013 and all of their blog posts<\/a> are currently gone. You can still find the influential 10 core characteristics of a DAM<\/a> on the DAM Maturity Model site.<\/p>\n

AI (artificial intelligence) is a hot topic: Henrik de Gyor interviews Asset Bank\u2019s Martin Wilson<\/a>, who says image recognition is still in its infancy but useful under human supervision. Bynder\u2019s Chris Hall thinks<\/a> it\u2019s already 80% there. According to Theresa Regli<\/a>, \u201cwe can finally take it seriously\u201d. Ralph Windsor remains skeptical<\/a> for now. Giuliano Iacobelli connects Box and Clarifai using Stamplay<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Medhat Mahmoud writes about DAM and IoT (Internet of Things)<\/a>, and Ralph Windsor comments<\/a> on generating value from data through DAM. Melinda Cormier describes a fun use case involving outdoor digital screens<\/a> which send location and temperature data to a DAM system, to help it decide which advertising campaign to display on the screen.<\/p>\n

The DAM trends in 2017<\/a> webinar recording (30 minutes) featuring Theresa Regli is well worth your time. See also the \u201cDAM in 2017\u201d predictions<\/a> by MediaValet.<\/p>\n

Jared Bajkowski shares his DAM stories<\/a> from Howard Hughes Medical Institute, including this catchy definition: \u201cDAM boils down to repository, reuse, and rights.\u201d If you want to dive deeper into rights, Pariah Burke shows how to document stock photo licenses<\/a> within the DAM, and (RightsML lead) Stuart Myles shares panel discussion videos on Developing the Digital Marketplace for Copyrighted Works<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I love the way Jake Athey defines DAM as \u201cthe foundation to connect<\/a> people, process, and technologies through visual content.\u201d<\/p>\n

DAM News\u2019 Ralph Windsor wants to help organizations develop in-house DAM consulting expertise<\/a>, starting with an \u201ceducation package\u201d on vendor selection<\/a>. Kate M. Spaulding asks LIS students to consider a DAM librarian career<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Analytics isn\u2019t just for pretty-looking graphs \u2013 Nate Holmes applies scientific methods to marketing analytics<\/a>, while Jack Saville explains how DAM helps SEO<\/a>. Julian Wright lists the different types of video metadata<\/a>.<\/p>\n

EnterMedia president Christopher Burkey talks about his mission<\/a> of not only providing an open source DAM system, but also fostering open data for the good of society.<\/p>\n

For techies, it\u2019s interesting how John Zimmer breaks down Content Services software architecture<\/a> into platforms, components and applications. Mariana Cedica goes \u201cserverless\u201d, generating thumbnail images in Nuxeo using AWS Lambda<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I rarely see vendors feature competing products on their blog, but that\u2019s what Pica9 is doing with their DAM software reviews<\/a>.<\/p>\n
