Here\u2019s the last month\u2019s Digital Asset Management (DAM) articles which had a lasting impression on me \u2013 picked from the constant stream of blog posts floating by on Planet DAM<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Part of my LIS education was old school \u201cGoogling\u201d: running around a scientific library, searching the shelves for a book or journal containing the right information. So I especially enjoyed Denzil Ford\u2019s explanation on why it makes sense to call DAM a \u201clibrary\u201d<\/a>, given its similarities with the traditional book library. See also Ralph Windsor\u2019s introductory article<\/a> and Constance Ard on how the core librarian skills remain relevant<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The recording of the New Jersey DAM Meetup\u2019s virtual meeting on Metadata Automation<\/a>, featuring David Riecks, Deb Fanslow and many other experts, is a highlight, and it\u2019s being recommended by Ralph Windsor<\/a>. See also Ian Matzen on Additive Metadata<\/a>.<\/p>\n

CEO Ramon Forster, in a letter and a presentation, introduces the upcoming Picturepark release<\/a> \u2013 an API-first DAM system, ready to act as a \u201cheadless CMS\u201d, with deep, semantically-linked metadata. Ralph Windsor (of DAM News) comments on this and other product announcements in Focus Moving Towards Integration & APIs In 2017.<\/a><\/p>\n

According to David Roe on CMSWire, ECM vendor Nuxeo is now focusing on the DAM market<\/a> (backed by $30M funding<\/a> in 2016). CEO Eric Barroca: \u201cNuxeo Platform is disrupting the DAM market.\u201d (See also Bynder\u2019s $22M funding<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Integrating data which lives in different systems is hard to do well, as Theresa Regli outlines in her article on PIM, PCM, and DAM<\/a>. In Box, Dropbox, and Google Drive are not DAM systems<\/a>, she reveals that 35% of 100+ vendors failed the DAM Foundation test, with versioning, transcoding and embedded metadata being the most challenging areas.<\/p>\n

Libby Maurer shares how they started doing UX research at Widen<\/a>, shifting from a tech-driven culture to one focused on DAM customer experience.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Keathley writes about finding a DAM career<\/a>, and warns us about fake job interviews (and about inviting her without really meaning it). In Rules for Ruling DAM<\/a>, she applies lessons from The Dictator\u2019s Handbook to promote DAM adoption in the enterprise.<\/p>\n

DAM system pricing is usually pretty vague, so it\u2019s nice to see some real numbers (taken from the DAM News survey) which Danielle Templeton then compares with the costs of other \u201cmartech\u201d software<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I love it when DAM practitioners tell their stories: This month it\u2019s Susan Pleiman (Marriott)<\/a>, Bryan Cohen (Pfizer)<\/a>, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Sanuy (Dalim)<\/a>, and Troy Underwood (Kraft Heinz Company)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As you\u2019d expect, some posts are looking back at the year 2016 \u2013 I like the ones from WoodWing<\/a> and Canto<\/a> best.<\/p>\n
