For more curated DAM links, see the <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagement.com\/blog\/tag\/links\/\">Digital Asset Management.com Links<\/a> and Tracy Wolfe\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/modlibrarian.wordpress.com\">10 things on the 10th<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ralph Windsor writes at length about <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagementnews.org\/opinion\/how-different-will-dam-be-in-2030-part-2\/\">DAM in 2030<\/a> on DAM News \u2013 including an excellent analysis of the DAM UI usability dilemma: The minimalist interfaces vendors \u201ccurrently over-obsess about\u201d are hard to reconcile with the inherent complexities of DAM. And vendors may not even be trying to get this right since \u201cdevising applications that are both powerful and simple is expensive\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>DAM system user experience (UX) is what <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/rosenfeld-media\/theresa-regli-podcast\">Theresa Regli talks about<\/a> too. While she says vendors \u201care much better at marketing than user experience\u201d, she sees UX being a hot topic among DAM vendors, and even names some which are getting it right.<\/p>\n<p>If you enjoy screenshot\/screencast-heavy DAM product walkthroughs as much as I do (as UX case studies), here\u2019s Antra Silova and Linda Rouse on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.databasics.com.au\/2016\/10\/24\/top-10-flight-features-2016\/\">Top 10 Canto Flight Features<\/a>, Meg Prater on <a href=\"https:\/\/brandfolder.com\/blog\/shared-story\/advanced-video-feature\/\">Brandfolder Advanced Video<\/a>, and Kristin Twiford\u2019s look at <a href=\"http:\/\/librisblog.photoshelter.com\/look-your-best-introducing-a-faster-more-customizable-portal\/\">the new Libris Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Getting deeper into UI details, Matt Piwowarski shares <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imagerelay.com\/blog\/2016\/sharing-opportunities\">the why and how of a feature redesign<\/a> in Image Relay.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Keathley has lots of good advice for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fotoware.com\/blog\/the-dam-choice-committee-needs-your-help\">DAM Choice Committee<\/a> on how to choose the right DAM system. To <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagement.com\/blog\/dam-champ-robin-parisse\/\">\u201cDAM Champ\u201d Robin Parisse<\/a>, self-service customization and integration are among the most important factors in selecting a DAM vendor \u2013 choose a vendor who offers \u201cout of the box configuration\u201d and an \u201cagile API that is easy to build off of\u201d. Zapier might be an interesting option for integrating the DAM with other systems (a quick <a href=\"http:\/\/planetdam.org\/search?q=zapier&amp;s=date_desc\">Planet DAM search<\/a> shows which vendors support it already) \u2013 here Jose Proenca describes the new <a href=\"https:\/\/zapier.com\/zapbook\/updates\/829\/widen-collective-integrations\/\">Widen Collective Zapier interface<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Fu does a nice <a href=\"http:\/\/info.brandobility.com\/blog\/do-you-know-why-metadata-is-so-important-for-your-assets\">introduction to metadata<\/a>, while Ralph Windsor argues that the more advanced asset\/metadata model in DAM <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagementnews.org\/opinion\/why-digital-assets-are-a-superior-source-of-value-for-enterprises\/\">provides more value<\/a> than the generic ECM approach. On Digital Asset Management.com, <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagement.com\/blog\/dam-champ-kathleen-cameron\/\">\u201cDAM Champ\u201d Kathleen Cameron<\/a> knows how to get CEOs interested in DAM \u2013 can they \u201cfind images for their slide deck without calling anybody\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Ian Matzen reminds us of the need for information governance \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tameyourassets.com\/asset-hoarder-versus-digital-curator\/\">curation, not hoarding<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fotoware CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/metadata-box-eyes-dam-ceo-christopher-frenning\">Christopher Frenning recommends<\/a> that \u201cDAM vendors should start looking at replacing their own file management layers and leverage the powerful platform of Box\u201d instead.<\/p>\n<p>Extensis collaborates with the IPTC on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.extensis.com\/company\/press-releases\/extensis-collaborates-with-iptc-on-new-standard-for-video-metadata\/\">video metadata standard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, a nice writeup of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realstorygroup.com\/Blog\/3070-Should-you-use-Adobe-Experience-Manager-for-DAM\">pros and cons of Adobe\u2019s AEM Assets<\/a> by Theresa Regli at the Real Story Group.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m looking forward to this month\u2019s DAM writing!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Copying Anselm Hannemann\u2019s Web Development Reading List format, here\u2019s the last month\u2019s Digital Asset Management articles which had a lasting impression on me \u2013 picked from the constant stream of blog posts you can see float by on Planet DAM.
