{"id":1838,"date":"2016-08-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-24T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwneu.strehle.de\/tim\/weblog\/archives\/2016\/08\/25\/1598-2\/"},"modified":"2016-08-25T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-24T22:00:00","slug":"1598-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.strehle.de\/tim\/weblog\/archives\/2016\/08\/25\/1598-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Dominic Grzbielok: It\u2019s DAMned hard to search for a Digital Asset Management system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On his blog, Dominic Grzbielok (of Munich-based startup <a href=\"http:\/\/www.target-video.com\/\">TargetVideo<\/a>) tells the story of his search for a DAM system:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.krautsource.info\/verdammt-schwer-die-suche-nach-einem-digital-asset-management-system\/\">VerDAMmt schwer, die Suche nach einem Digital Asset Management-System<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(The blog post is in German \u2013 the title translates to \u201cIt\u2019s DAMned hard to search for a Digital Asset Management system\u201d.)<\/p>\n<p>He explains why it indeed is \u201cterrible to shop for a DAM system\u201d, as I had guessed in <a href=\"\/tim\/weblog\/archives\/2014\/08\/03\/1734\">DAM, a market with no reviews or critics<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Requirements are complex, there\u2019s tons of systems (he looked at 80 DAM products), the market is intransparent (reviews and public criticism are rare, apart from Ralph Windsor\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalassetmanagementnews.org\">DAM News<\/a>), analyst reports are expensive and it\u2019s unclear whether you can trust them, and DAM consulting isn\u2019t cheap either.<\/p>\n<p>An excellent article and a rare insight into the DAM buying process from the customer\u2019s point of view \u2013 don\u2019t miss it if you can read German, or deal with the horrors of Google Translate.<\/p>\n<p><em>Disclosure:<\/em> Our company\u2019s DAM system was one of the 80 products on Dominic\u2019s list.
