Some takeaways:<\/p>\n<p>Erik explains how software \u201carchitect\u201d is, in several ways, not a good metaphor. \u201cTown planner\u201d or even \u201cgardener\u201d might be better metaphors, considering that software architecture constantly needs to be adapted and reshaped.<\/p>\n<p>He encourages vertical slicing with room for some experimentation in each slice, and he\u2019s got some nice stories of architecture mistakes and evolution.<\/p>\n<p>To Erik, the software architect is an experienced developer who can guide other developers, not making the rules but asking the right questions: \u201cInteresting idea! I thought the same thing five years ago \u2013 and then <em>that<\/em> happened.
