His blog is on my <a href=\"\/tim\/weblog\/archives\/2013\/03\/02\/1565\">reading list for programmers<\/a>. I love the way he writes, making software development feel simple and personal. (Much appreciated especially when I\u2019m building \u201centerprise software\u201d that often seems to be the opposite.)<\/p>\n<p>Two of his pieces that I can\u2019t get out of my head (both from 2012):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/scripting.com\/stories\/2012\/06\/24\/aMessageFromDevelopersToUs.html\">A message from developers to users<\/a>: \u201cUsers do more of some things than others. [\u2026] You make that way easy.\u201d A wonderfully simple definition of the essence of software development, and a welcome change of perspective.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/scripting.com\/stories\/2012\/02\/10\/whatYouThinkMatters.html\">What you think matters<\/a>: \u201cI would send the message to all 15-year-olds, not just me.\u201d I remember thinking during the first years in my job: \u201cWhy are they doing things this way? This seems wrong. I must be missing something.\u201d I often wasn\u2019t \u2013 they <span class=\"italic\">were<\/span> making a lot of mistakes, but as the newbie I wasn\u2019t supposed to know.
