To be honest, I enjoyed it slightly less than I had expected: It\u2019s a great (and beautiful) book, but I have been following <a href=\"http:\/\/37signals.com\/svn\/\">Signal vs. Noise<\/a> and similar blogs for years now, so most ideas weren\u2019t new to me. (And isn\u2019t it mostly common sense? I keep wondering why managers have such a hard time doing the right thing. Seems like we need <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainyquote.com\/quotes\/quotes\/o\/oliverwend387391.html\">\u201ceducation in the obvious\u201d<\/a>, so please go read the book, then pass it on to your boss.)<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s some quotes from REWORK that made me think:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSell your by-products: [\u2026] There\u2019s probably something you haven\u2019t thought about that you could sell too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInterruption is not collaboration, it\u2019s just interruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPour yourself into your product and everything <em>around<\/em> your product too: how you sell it, how you support it, how you explain it, and how you deliver it. Competitors can never copy the <em>you<\/em> in your product.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSoon, the stack of things you\u2019ve said yes to grows so tall you can\u2019t even see the things you should really be doing. Start getting into the habit of saying no. [\u2026] Don\u2019t be a jerk about saying no, though.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re the one who has to believe in [your product] most. That way, you can say, &#8218;I think you\u2019ll love it because I love it.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSmart companies make [\u2026] something that\u2019s at-home good. When you get the product home, you\u2019re actually more impressed with it than you were at the store. You live with it and grow to like it more and more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuild an audience. Speak, write, blog, tweet, make videos \u2013 whatever. Share information that\u2019s valuable and you\u2019ll slowly but surely build a loyal audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive people a backstage pass and show them how your business works. [\u2026] People are curious about how things are made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t be afraid to show your flaws. Imperfections are real and people respond to real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOwn your bad news: [\u2026] When something bad happens, tell your customers (even if they never noticed in the first place).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more people you have between your customer\u2019s words and the people doing the work, the more likely is it that the message will get lost or distorted along the way. Everyone on your team should be connected to your customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCulture is the by-product of consistent behaviour. [\u2026] If you treat customers right, then treating customers right becomes your culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a ton of untapped potential trapped under lame policies, poor direction, and stifling bureaucracies. Cut the crap and you\u2019ll find that people are waiting to do great work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRockstar environments develop out of trust, autonomy, and responsibility.
