Although it took me a couple of weeks to get accustomed to the differences in keyboard layout (@, Cmd vs. Ctrl, brackets etc.)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Pros:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>very beautiful, thoughtfully designed (and fast) hardware and software, great user experience<\/li>\n<li>changing networks and plugging\/unplugging external displays just works (some of these things required reboots on my Windows laptop)<\/li>\n<li>Unix command line, Mac GUI, Windows VMs &#8211; definitely the best of all three worlds<\/li>\n<li>Spotlight, Finder, Quick Look and the ubiquitous PDF support are a huge advantage over Windows<\/li>\n<li>I like TextWrangler and iTerm better than similar free software that&#8217;s available for Windows<\/li>\n<li>high fun factor; kids love Photo Booth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>not crash-free; it&#8217;s freezed and crashed as often as my Windows XP laptop (although most of the problems seemed to be caused by the third-party ISDN adapter driver)<\/li>\n<li>it loses the Bluetooth Mighty Mouse every two or three days, I have to search for it via System Preferences (how would you do that on an iMac when your only mouse is not working?)<\/li>\n<li>the screen cannot be opened wide enough for an optimal viewing angle (my old Acer laptop screen could be opened 180 degrees)<\/li>\n<li>no free VMware Player and no VMware Console for the Mac (but Fusion is cheaper than Workstation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the software I&#8217;m actually using:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apple Address Book, Automator, Dictionary, Front Row, GarageBand, iCal, iChat, iPhoto, iTunes, Photo Booth, Safari, Time Machine<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.adiumx.com\/\">Adium<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/earth.google.com\/\">Google Earth<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/iterm.sourceforge.net\/\">iTerm<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/jingproject.com\/\">Jing<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/firefox\/\">Mozilla Firefox<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/thunderbird\/\">Mozilla Thunderbird<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsgator.com\/Individuals\/NetNewsWire\/\">NetNewsWire<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.openoffice.org\/\">OpenOffice.org<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bytecode.com.au\/passwordsafeswt\/\">PasswordSafeSWT<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.php.net\/\">PHP<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcsoft.com\/products\/photostudio\/\">ArcSoft PhotoStudio<\/a> (was bundled with my scanner)<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.skype.com\/\">Skype<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.barebones.com\/products\/textwrangler\/\">TextWrangler<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.joshjacob.com\/macdev\/tnef\/\">TNEF&#8217;s Enough<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tunnelblick.net\/\">Tunnelblick<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vmware.com\/products\/fusion\/\">VMware Fusion<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interesting: Just 13 months ago (as it has been for more than ten years), every laptop and desktop computer in our company was running Windows (with Linux servers and a few Macs for testing).
